Kit Man Shum is the Chief Consultant and Principal Administrator of DSC Laser & Skin Care Center, a comprehensive medical spa in San Gabriel, California. She started DSC with her husband, Dr. Tony K. Shum, in 2005 and has enjoyed serving the greater San Gabriel Valley community in the years since.
DSC Laser & Skin Care Center was born out of Kit Man’s passion for spreading beauty and wellness, a commitment evidenced by her eponymous skincare line, DSC, and her status as a Registered Cosmetician under the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
Before establishing DSC Laser & Skin Care Center, Kit Man created San Marino Enterprises, Inc., a beauty product research and distribution company, in 1991. It was during this time that she established the DSC skincare line. As the popularity of her skincare line grew, distribution expanded from the greater Los Angeles area to the United States and finally to Asia.
Prior to San Marino Enterprises, Inc. and beginning in 1987, Kit Man served as the vice president of the Los Angeles Monita Hair and Beauty Center. Because of her work with Monita and subsequent beauty-related ventures, Kit Man is a registered member of the Aesthetics International Association (AIA) and a lifetime member of the Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie (CIDESCO). As a business owner, Kit Man is a 2016 recipient of the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women Southern California Chapter’s outstanding achievement award and currently serves on the board for the organization. She is also a member of the Asian Business Association, Los Angeles, and a member of the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to her work sharing beauty, wellness, and health, Kit Man is also dedicated to serving the public through community service for the past 30 years in the greater Los Angeles area. Kit Man has been volunteering at the Herald Christian Health Center in San Gabriel for the past 27 years for its cancer patients program and orphanage program. She is now a member of the board of directors at Herald Christian Health Center (HCHC), a non-profit community health care clinic. She is the first bilingual, Chinese-English volunteer makeup instructor in southern California for the “Look Good Feel Better” program, a public service support program for people with cancer, such program was created in conjunction with the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Professional Beauty Association. Kit Man is also a volunteer makeup instructor for the first Mandarin-based, Chinese breast cancer support group in the US, nicknamed the “Joy Luck Club”. Kit Man also, for the past 30 years, organize and speak quarterly at church and community events to promote wellness, anti-aging, and healthy life style. A portion of the proceeds from her skin care line is donated to Chinese orphanages sponsored by Chinese Christian Herald Crusades (CCHC). Over the last decade, Kit Man and DSC Laser & Skin Care Center’s donation and fundraising efforts have totaled nearly a million dollars for charity; for Kit Man believes that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Kit Man has been married to her husband, Dr. Tony K. Shum for twenty-seven and going on twenty-eight years. They have two children and reside in San Marino, California. Dr and Mrs. Shum believe in learning and continue education by traveling the world. And in her spare time, Kit Man enjoys gardening and playing badminton. She attends church in her neighborhood and help spread the gospel.
Mrs. Kitman Shum is both happy and grateful for the blessing of an achievement award, a prestigious acknowledgment.
